CAMP PHILOSOPHY AND ORGANIZATION

The Messiah College Boys Basketball camp for boys ages 10 – 18 is uniquely designed to meet each athlete at their current level of experience.  It is our desire to help each athlete grow and improve in their skill, as well as, their understanding of the game of basketball.  With a very low coach to player ratio of around 8 – 1 we strive to give as much individual attention as possible to each camper throughout the week.  We carefully select our staff from our best current and former players who have a heart for teaching and the ability to communicate with young people.  We also employee many highly talented and experienced high school coaches who meet our high standards of character and ethical behavior.  We know that in some camp situations the coaches and counselors are not always the best role models for today’s young players, we seek to be special in that way, and want to leave a positive and meaningful impression on each athlete during their week at camp.

Each day will consist of three, 2-3 hour training sessions – Morning, Afternoon, Evening.  Each session will build upon the next as we continually try to challenge the campers to try to master different fundamentals of the game.  Campers will be in teaching stations, skill breakdown drills, skills factory’s, and short sided games.  Training sessions will also include fun competitions and the ever popular 5 v 5 league play.  We strive to make the camp both challenging and fun for all campers.

The camp is essentially divided into three different groups for the week of camp.  All training and competition takes place in these three groups to allow for different levels of experience and skill to be grouped together.  Within each league campers will be assigned to a team and a coach for the week of camp.  In most cases the camp is divided in these three Leagues:

ACC – Rising 5th and 6th graders  ( we may move a more physically mature 6th grader up if we feel it is appropriate for his development during the week)

SEC -  Rising 7th and 8th graders   ( we may move a more physically mature 8th grader up if appropriate )

BIG TEN -  Rising 9th -12th graders
